Finding Peace After Tragedy

When Jenny B lost her father to suicide, her world turned upside down. The relationship had always been complicated, and his sudden death left her with a storm of unresolved emotions. “I didn’t know how to process it,” she shared. “I didn’t know how to feel because my feelings were complicated before that happened. After he was gone, I wanted to make sure I went down the right healing path. I didn’t want to sort it out myself. I wanted to put my relationship with him in a good place where I felt comfortable and resolved. I didn’t think I could do it by myself. “

Although she had never pursued therapy or mental health treatment before, Jenny was drawn to the potential of ketamine after hearing from several people who spoke highly of it. “I had used psychedelics recreationally before, but never as medicine,” she said. “I did my research, and I knew I wanted something local. WholeMind felt right. I talked to the people who had done it and everyone swore by it.”

During her sessions, Jenny experienced something she hadn’t felt in a long time: deep stillness. “Having 40 minutes to completely relax and be open to the medicine—that was powerful. I’d wake up with these ‘duh’ moments, like pieces just falling into place. Things that weren’t clear before suddenly made total sense.”

What started as a journey to heal one specific wound became something much bigger. “I resolved my original intention quickly. But as the weeks went on, more came up—things I didn’t even know I needed to address. And now I had the tools to do it.”

Today, Jenny is preparing to hold her father’s funeral, something that once felt too overwhelming. “I feel like there’s an end date to the grief now. I don’t spiral the way I used to. I can put things in their place and move forward.”

Her advice for others considering ketamine therapy? “Trust the process and do the work. Reading the book “Let Them” during treatment really helped. Trust the person doing your integration. Deep dive when you do the journaling a couple days after, revisit what you learned, and continue processing. You don’t remember everything all at once. Do the six weeks, no matter how you feel, and trust the process. After the third session I felt a little down, it took five sessions before I was feeling better. For me, it was like 20 years of therapy in 45 minutes. Allow yourself to cry, to feel it all. Don’t be embarrassed—be proud. You’re taking the steps to heal in a way that is proven to be a better method.”
